Testosterone Therapy: What Does The Science Say & Where Are We Headed
Watch or listen to a special early release of an upcoming episode from my top podcast, "Maximizing Hormones, Physique & Running Through Perimenopause" where I discuss what we currently know from high-quality research on testosterone therapy & women's health, body composition & fitness outcomes.
I originally wanted to share this information with my private practice clients, but I also felt called to share it with my email subscribers & podcast listeners - because we all deserve the right to understand our options, potential side effects, risks/benefits, limitations & what we should first consider before starting a new medication.
One important note, in case you don't listen all the way to the end: Testosterone therapy has been found to impact muscle mass when prescribed at supraphysiologic doses. However, these doses can also produce unwanted effects, including acne, oily skin & deepening of the voice, among other potential risks.
At this time, we do not have solid, high-quality research demonstrating that physiologic doses of testosterone therapy improve musculoskeletal resilience, build muscle, prevent injuries, or meaningfully improve body composition in active women & runners.
We also don’t yet have long-term research examining testosterone therapy use beyond two years. In other words, we simply don’t know enough yet about the long-term effects on women’s health.
I’ll be standing by—and watching the research—as we learn more.
If you found this video helpful, please share it with a fierce female friend who needs this information.
Yours in all things well-informed wellness-minded women runners,
Louise
